The Capuchin Monkeys or “White-Faced Monkeys” are extremely curious and agile creatures. They use their strong limbs and prehensile tails to swing from tree to tree and can often be found hanging out in big groups.

7. The Agouti

These tropical rodents look like larger sized guinea pigs and are known as seed dispensers. They are vital to the ecosystem as their forgotten seeds become the next generation of vegetation in the rainforest.

8. The Poison Dart Frogs

Although tiny, the poison dart frogs are easy to spot as they wear some of Earth’s most vibrant colors. They are typically green, but you can also be yellow, gold, copper, red, blue, and black as well. The poison found within the skin of poison dart frogs is used by Central and South American natives to poison the darts they use for killing animals.

9. The Ocelot

Of all Costa Rica’s wild cats the ocelot is the easiest one to spot. About twice the size of a house cat, the ocelot is the largest of the small wild cat species. Keep an eye out for these beautiful creatures near dusk/dawn and when driving around at night.

10. The Jaguar

The jaguar is the only animal on our list that has not been spotted by Escaleras Escape’s own eyes as of yet, however, they are out there. It’s incredibly rare to catch sight of these magnificent felines as they are extremely shy and try to avoid human interaction at all cost.
