Here at Escaleras Escape we wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys and drink our coffee amongst the toucans.
We plan our days around the tides and are always chasing the sun.
You’ll find that Escaleras Escape is more than just an accommodation…
It’s an experience.
An experience you’ll want to return to again and again and again and again.

The Cabinas
Located just outside of Dominical our cabinas are perched 1,000ft up in the jungle of Escaleras with stunning ocean, mountain, and jungle views.
Our spacious balconies double as elevated viewing platforms, giving you some of the best wildlife experiences in all of Costa Rica.
Escaleras Escape offers up 2 cabinas— The Toucan Cottage and The Howler House.
Named after the famous wildlife that frequently visit the property, these 2 bed 1 bath cabinas are spacious and suitable for groups of 1-4 persons or 4-8 persons if you are renting out both cabinas.
Surrounding Area
Escaleras Escape is conveniently located 1,000 ft up in the jungle of Escaleras between Dominical and Uvita on Costa Rica’s southwest coast.
We are within close proximity to 2 national parks (Manuel Antonio and Marino Ballena), the Hacienda Baru Wild Life Refuge, yoga and surf lessons, hiking trails, horse treks, ATV tours, whitewater rafting, paragliding, sport fishing, dive and snorkel sites, multiple world renown surf beaches, some of Costa Rica’s tallest waterfalls, and countless restaurants and bars.
Getting to Escaleras Escape
Fly into SJO and the fastest way is to take Highway 27 to Highway 34. Highway 27 is a toll road and you will need cash to pay the toll. (Approximately 2000 Colones)
For step by step driving directions from Dominical click here.
Another option would be to fly Sansa Airlines from San Jose into Quepos. It’s a short 20 minute domestic flight, but take note that you will be needing a ride from the Quepos airport to a car rental shop. We are more than willing to pick you up and drop you off from airport to car rental if you are friends/family or those staying a minimum of 3 nights.
If you will be needing a ride, please contact us via airbnb or email (contact@escalerasescape.com ) so we can plan accordingly.
VEHICLE
A 4×4 is required for ease of accessing not only Escaleras Escape, but also many of the activities and sights you’ll want to take advantage of while in the area.
Ensure the cheapest car rental price for you and your party by reserving your car here.
Currency
Named after Christopher Columbus, the official currency of Costa Rica is the Colon (CRC).
Although USD is widely accepted, as well as multiple credit cards, Escaleras Escape would highly recommend finding an ATM to withdraw some Colones as you will need Colones for the toll road and small shops.
Do not use the currency exchange at the airport as your bank exchange rates will be much better.
$1 USD = 600 colones
Seasons
Dry Season: December-May
Wet/Green Season: June-November
Wettest Months: September/October
Escaleras Escape’s proximity to the equator means temperatures stay nice and warm all year round with highs usually around 31 degrees Celsius (88 degrees Fahrenheit) and lows around 22 degrees Celsius ( 72 degrees Fahrenheit)
Power Outlets
Escaleras Escape and all of Costa Rica uses North American plugins (110 volt 60 cycle), which means you will not be needing a converter/adapter if traveling from the United States, Canada, Mexico, or Japan.

CLOTHES
Cool and casual. Shorts and swimsuits most days. Flip flops for the beach, and running shoes or hiking boots for adventure. You will not need a coat, sweater, or formal attire. Costa Rica is all about comfort.
LAUNDRY
Laundry is not available in the cabina, however, laundry service can be arranged for an additional fee.
LINENS
All linens will be provided for you including clean sheets, pillows/cases, bath towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, and wash cloths.
WATER
Our water comes from the mountain and is not treated. We drink it and have never had any problems, however, if you are not comfortable drinking the tap water you must provide your own.
ELECTRICITY
Our electricity is reliable, however, Costa Rica can experience power outages causing the electricity to occasionally blink or go off for a short period of time. There are candles in the kitchen drawer. If you were running the AC during a power outage, open up all windows to ensure the cabin stays nice and cool.
TOILETS
The ecosystem in Costa Rica is very fragile. Please do not put paper products of any kind in the toilet. Please use bin provided.
TRASH
Please put all trash in the bin while keeping the recyclables separate in their allocated bin. Any compost or trash that needs to be removed can be left at the bottom of the stairs and we will dispose of it for you.
FOOD SCRAPS
Please do not place any food scraps or coffee grounds in the trashcan/down the drain. This will cause your trash to stink and could result in bugs. Place your food scraps in the compost bucket provided. If your bucket is full or you would like it emptied simply send us a message or leave it at the bottom of the stairs and we will dispose of it, clean it, and place it back at the bottom of the stairs for you.
SMOKING
Smoking is not allowed inside buildings in Costa Rica. Please respect that rule during your stay at Escaleras Escape.
TOURS
We can book any and all tours for your convenience!
SECURITY
Please lock the front door and place your key in the lockbox before leaving the property.
Costa Rica is safe and the locals are wonderful. Like most countries, there is petty theft. Use your best judgement. We must warn you to never leave valuables of any kind in your parked car when sightseeing or going to the beach.
Air Con
Our cabinas are equipped with aircon, however, the best way to experience the jungle is to sleep with your windows open and the fans on. There really is no better feeling than falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the jungle. The temperatures drop during the night ensuring a comfortable nights sleep. If you wish to sleep with the AC, please ensure all windows are closed while running the unit.
